The writer who created the immensely successful fantasy series The Wheel of Time with 44 million copies sold worldwide, James Oliver Rigney aka Robert Jordan has been dead and gone for some time. Now scavengers gather to salvage what they can, and press as much money out of his creation as possible.
Red Eagle Entertainment, the film studio that owns the rights to The Wheel of Time, are planning to make at least three films based on the best-selling books. Starting at the first part in the series "The Eye of the World". It is rumoured that Universal has been given the task to take the book to the big screen with a 150 million dollar budget.
Red Eagle Entertainment has also announced the most recent addition to their company. Red Eagle Games, which will be given the task of publishing the nowadays obligatory game based on the film. Oh, and they have plans for an MMO aswell.
Lets all pray to the powers that be that these games and movies turn out decent, and does not completley ruin the entire series for us. Although I am hopeful I have my doubts.
Introduction Three men have a meeting every morning at work not to discuss the work to do today, but to talk about their experiences last night in the post apocalyptic world as we know it in Fallout 3.
The Fallout Universe In the Fallout universe America has been in a nuclear war against other communist countries. Because of the nuclear threat the government started building vaults. When the nuclear war became a reality, some people could get inside the safety of the vaults and others couldn’t.
Fallout 1 and 2 were Turnbased Strategy RPG-like games that took place in California (I actually don’t know for sure, because I never played 1 and 2, you should ask Darkvain).
System Fallout 3 is a RPG with a thick layer of shooter sauce or actually a RPG where you don’t click on your enemy but have to aim to hit it (first or third person). A RPG always has stats and skills. Fallout 3 also has perks which also influence your ability to shoot, talk, sneak, picklock etc.
The RPG system used in Fallout 3 isn’t hard to master (which I heard wasn’t that easy in Oblivion). One of the main reasons is the best character creation and tutorial I have ever had in a game.
Atmosphere & Environment At the beginning of Fallout 3 you experience your own birth through your own eyes. You hear your father say: “Honey it’s a …”. A menu pops up which let you chose between boy or girl. “boy”, father says, I chose to be a boy. After that your dad shows you how you will look like when you are an adult with some fancy machine. You can completely customize your character and even let it look like yourself. Which I tried, but didn’t really succeed, because I didn’t want to waste too much time with it. You can customize your face in so many ways it is even better than the one in Mass Effect. From the size, height, width, slope of your nose to your cheek bones, eyes, eyebrows, forehead, chin, everything (only haircuts and facial hair are standardized). When finished your will start the game inside Vault 101 (the game is full of these sort of cool names and things) where you further built up your character stats and learn the basics of the game. A nice example is the first thing you do in the game, learning to walk with the WASD keys and interact with your environment with the E key when you are about 2 years old. Don’t be afraid to mess up though. When you leave the Vault you can completely alter your character from buffed male to smart female.
At this moment the game starts a large open world opens up for you. I think most of you already heard, read or maybe experienced how incredibly epic Fallout 3 is. The world sucks you in like a…vacuum cleaner…? Straight from the start (even the tutorial is awesome).
The Call of Duty franchise has evolved into one of the most beloved, respected and played brands in the industry. With Call of Dutry 4: Modern Warfare’s outstanding success to draw upon, developer Treyarch now looks to redefine WWII gaming in Call of Duty: World at War; a tension-filled, story-driven shooter that makes no compromises and takes no prisoners. As the game prepares for release, we’ve compiled the very best intel to give you a debriefing like no other. Will you survive the chaos? Will you survive the combat? Will you survive the World at War?
FULL LENGTH DEBUT TRAILER
This debut trailer, which has been viewed nearly two million times on GameTrailers alone, literally set the gaming world on fire. The featured WWII setting, which came as a surprise to many, gave viewers the chance to “see things that no training can prepare you for” while delivering an up-close, intense look at the action to come.
CO-OP COLLABORATION TRAILER
Four-player co-op on the campaign mission Eviction is the setting for this demonstration video, which individually highlights the players while placing an emphasis on teamwork. After a stealthy insertion, the players take pride in reversing the tables and serving up the local bartender with a Molotov cocktail. Showcasing creative use of the environments and unique strategy execution on a player-by-player basis, this trailer prepared us for long hours of co-op—keeping our allies, and enemies, up all night.
FIRE & DESTRUCTION TRAILER
There’s a reason why this video was titled Fire & Destruction. It doesn’t take long to figure it out. Viewers are immediately introduced to an intense barrage of rockets, steam-rolling, flame-throwing tanks, exploding buildings, and more. It all demonstrates the impact fire has in the game and proving that if you’re going to survive this World at War, you better know how to stop, drop, and roll.
MULTIPLAYER DOWNFALL TRAILER
“No one fights alone.” At least, no one should fight alone, and this video shows us just why. Providing cover fire, utilizing class-specific weaponry, strategically advancing on your enemies, and saving the lives of your squad mates are just a few examples of the teamwork needed to survive in CoD: World at War’s intense multiplayer mode.
EXCLUSIVE NAZI ZOMBIE GAMEPLAY
Nazi Zombies in a Call of Duty game? That’s right, and GameTrailers delivered the world’s first look at this rather unique co-op mode in action. Pulling from a special arsenal of weapons and fighting to survive waves of the Nazi undead inside a decrepit building isn’t what we expected from a World War II shooter, but that makes it all the more sweet. This mode is unlocked once the single-player campaign is complete—as if you needed more incentive.
GRENADE GAMEPLAY
Grenades will play an integral part in your success (or failure) in Call of Duty: World at War and this video demonstrates exactly why. What might appear to be a routine game of capture the flag quickly ignites into a fight or flight frag fest where choosing between cover and assault is a matter of virtual life or death. You’re going to need the arm of an All-Pro quarterback in order to survive.
Call of Duty: World at War hits store shelves on November 11, so keep checking this space for updates as we prepare to send the Nazi regime packing once again.
Early access to the Left 4 Dead demo begins today on both the PC and Xbox 360.
This promotion is being offered in addition to the 10% savings for those who pre-order and applies to all Steam PC pre-orders and all PC and Xbox 360 pre-orders from GameStop and EB Games in North America.
On November 11 the demo will be made available to all PC and Xbox 360 gamers worldwide, with no obligation to purchase. The demo concludes on November 18, when Left 4 Dead will be made available at retail outlets across North America and worldwide via Steam.
Setting out to do for co-op gaming what Counter-Strike did for team combat, Left 4 Dead is an ambitious survival horror game. Running on the Source engine, Left 4 Dead leaves four armed survivors of a world overrun with zombies, and they must fight their way out to escape the outbreak.
Designed for co-op play, the four players must work together to finish each stage of the game, lending each other artillery support, sharing ammo and rescuing each other when zombies are on top of them. In addition to the standard four players as humans, another four players can be amongst the masses of assaulting zombies, seeking to take down the other players. Zombie players might even find themselves become one of the four mutant "boss" zombies, who have unique powers that can be used to devastate, injure, tie up, mark and track, confuse, or even humiliate the gun-toting human survivors. Fallout 3 is a special videogame. It's an open-world role-playing game that delivers an experience unlike anything on the market right now. It's a gripping and expansive showcase of how much depth and excitement can be packed into one videogame, and it does justice to the Fallout franchise. HL2 crossed with Bioshock?
The Fallout universe paints a picture of a dystopian future. It exists in what people on the cusp of the atomic revolution in the 1950s saw as the sci-fi world of tomorrow... if several thousand nuclear bombs were dropped on it. It's a quaint sci-fi view of a future filled with atomic cars, robot servants, and incredibly basic computer terminals. A nuclear war has taken away most of these technological comforts, providing the backdrop for a game with a dreary, desperate atmosphere filled with glib and dark humor. It's a world that is both fantastic and somehow believable. And it is one that's exciting to explore. Read full review here.
Uh oh - time to delete your cookies again! Cookie monster has come back to TG to kill us all. Due to some mixups over which domain we should be using as our main domain, we've had to reset the cookie domain to thegatheringclan.org rather than .co.uk
This means very little in terms of whats on the site and how it works, but you'll need to change your bookmarks to .org and probably flush your cookies from the browser if you want seamless logins between main site and forums.
If you get logged out from the forums randomly... it's cos you're looking at a .co.uk page i bet. Pain in the ass! Sorry about that.
Here is a really useful looking tool I found for FireFox, still a prototype but I think it'll take off alot when it becomes a little more userfriendly.
I can't wait to test it out for myself. The developers are looking for people to test it aswell, even if you just report some bugs back to them, I'm sure it would be a big help.
Nothing free seems to last forever these days. At one time YouTube was 100% free for users. That time has now passed. While a majority of videos are still free, they have started sneaking in links to paid video and audio clips. It looks like YouTube is evolving from a free video site to a multimedia mall of sorts. As long as user uploaded videos are still free, I have no problem with it.
While it seems like most people haven’t even noticed the changes, I certainly have. I have to wonder how long it will be before we see more drastic changes. Google and YouTube see these links as a type of instant gratification for users, but I’m not so sure about the reality of that. They claim that the links are “non-obtrusive” which they are, but you will probably end up clicking on paid links without realizing it.
“Today, we’re taking our first steps to providing YouTube users with gratification, by adding “click-to-buy” links to the watch pages of thousands of YouTube partner videos. Click-to-buy links are non-obtrusive retail links, placed on the watch page beneath the video with the other community features. Just as YouTube users can share, favorite, comment on, and respond to videos quickly and easily, now users can click-to-buy products — like songs, books, and movies — related to the content they’re watching on the site,” according to Google reps.
While these changes don’t seem too drastic, I have to wonder what other changes they have in store for us. What was once a free content provider is now a semi-free content provider.
