Nikonus Award 2008-2009 PDF Print E-mail
(3 votes)

Well the day is here - the day we remember an old member, and the day we give a small honour in his name to someone who continues in his footsteps!

Without the illness bit, hopefully :?

The Nikonus Award is made to the member who's been nominated as "making a really positive difference" to our community over the past year. By making us laugh, by helping people, by being active and helping TG grow. Everything Nick did and everything we look for in a clan m8.

This year's winner has done all of that, and has also been a TG stalwart from many years now. There were a bunch of people nominated who we knew *could* have won this easily this year so we just had to try and pick the person we thought *should* win.

And that person is Sui!

For helping out so much over the year
For always being here on the forums and in various games
For being a n00b
For being nice
For sharing those photos of his horrible operation :/

Congrats m8 ;)

Well we've had quite a few nominations in, but there is still time to put forward your choice if you want to! The admins will be having a meeting over the weekend to discuss whos in the running so make sure you get your pm sent by Saturday morning at the latest. I don't know if Nick's family are still taking notice of our site or this award, but if you want to you can go leave any message you feel appropriate over at the website they set up for Nick, or you can donate to the Nick Butcher Legacy Trust.

Erm yeah so the sites broken again Razz  That is... thegatheringclan.org is broken (we need to pay for it) but thegatheringclan.co.uk works just fine! So if you see broken things, just try changing the url for .co.uk and all should be good Wink

Each year we award a £50 prize in memory of Nick Butcher (TG|Nikonus) as recognition of their character and everything positive that they've brought to our community. Nick was always a comedian and a friend, and this award is given in his name to the TG member who has made the best positive difference to this community in the year preceding the 23rd of March.

You can read the full history of the event in the wiki pages but the long and the short of it is that nominations are now open, and we're looking for your thoughts on who should win it for this year. Have a think, and send your nomination to one of the clan admins by pm, email or xfire etc. Everyone gets a say, so tell us who you think should get it now!

Big News Update! PDF Print E-mail
(3 votes)

Hi guys, well it's time for a big old update on all that's going on at TG. The past few weeks have been another of those really busy periods where so much goes on there simply hasn't been time to come and update the site. But I'm now at work waiting for some software to install, so this is the perfect time to run out and post here!

The Group Thing
Firstly, our integration with TGT has gone well. As we hoped, the calibre of players in both organisations has made it very easy for people to mix and match and make new friends. Plenty of TG members now have Left 4 Dead thanks to Valve's half price offer the other week, and it's great to see some mix-team zombie splatter going on of an evening. Our ET, CSS and UrT activity has suffered a bit though, so it's now time to start upping the tempo in these divisions and getting some quality gaming in.

Counterstrike Source
Our CSS Gungame server still retains it's popularity! It's great to see it full most nights. We do need to let these people know that the server is going offline in April though, and we need to start using the TGT Gungame server, as it's running exactly the same config on a even better connection. We also need to arrange some fun nights or "gathers" so we can blow the crap out of each other and have some fun Wink

TGT Server IP:
Proposed Gather: Thursdays at 7:30pm

Enemy Territory
ET is still going, although once more our team has suffered from inactivity and a period of confusion thanks to our merge with TGT. Our core players are still very much here and playing, but SuperChunk has left us to join SAS as we weren't giving him enough activity and scrims to keep him interested. Fair enough and you know we'll be seeing him online still, so don't get all weepy Wink The flip side though is that RaAge has joined us, as he was looking for a relaxed team where people don't mind if you go AFK a bit! Welcome to the team buddy Very Happy Make sure you have him on xfire and that you invite him to scrim.

Urban Terror
Tech, Punk and Raed are still keeping the UrT flag flying high, and we've got to thank Tech in particular for keeping things organised and for his persistence in trying to get people to play. It's time we introduced the rest of our buddies at TGT to the game, so we need to get on an organised a Gather for this, so we can get a full server. Loads of people play quake live, so persuading them to come play this should be pretty easy! Check out the forums for more.

JediKnight 2
We're STILL waiting for the TGT server to be set up, but I've been promised that it's coming soon! When it does, it'll be just the excuse we need to organise the mother of all Gathers, and see if we can't make it a monthly event (to start with) which we can use to attract all our old guys back and have some fun. Again, loads of the TGT guys have played this game in the past, and there is a genuine buzz about organising something - we should be able to get some full servers! Cl0wn, Darkvain and I will be sorting this out hopefully Wink I've got the contact details for Andon, BW, CB, Dregot, REBD, Puff etc, so who knows!

The site
We've got a discussion thread going here about how we need to re-organise the TG main site (which you are looking at now), as now we've changed the way we're using the web, we need to reflect this to our online users. If you've got some opinions or ideas please come share em! It's also a bit disappointing to see that only about half our users have bothered to come and check out the forums since we integrated them. It's sad to see so many people slip away, but maybe it's shown us who the "involved" TG users were and who was just tagging along for the ride or for memories sake. There's still time and you know we'd love to see you come and post, so get your ass in there Wink

The Future
Well, this is yet another grand chapter in the story of TG, so the future is still as blank and changeable as it ever was! The immediate plans are to ensure all our servers are sorted and supported as best they possibly can be - we've got nearly 30 servers available to us, so we need to make sure they are publicised and as fully used as possible! The website will be getting a face lift on the back of this I'm sure, and then we need to do two things. One - make sure our existing members are kept informed and in touch as best as we are possibly able and Two - we need to slowly start recruiting again, and make sure we keep growing TG for the future.

It's a big challenge, but as I write this, it's a challenge I actually think will be good for us, and I'm really excited to see where we end up! We've got some big companies behind us now, and there are some realy possibilities here.

All for now...

Goaty

Guild Wars updates update PDF Print E-mail

Guild WarsArenaNet's new years resolution is to update Guild Wars with their usual monthly updates. New are the content updates, these will occur every three to four months. By spacing out the releases the team will be able to tackle more complex and larger projects. Expect some features that seemed unattainable (by the team). The first content update will be expected in April 2009.

Here are a few features we are currently developing for April:

  • Increases to account-based storage
  • Improvements to character-based storage
  • Account-based changes to the Hall of Monuments

I've had a look on what dates we should prac instead of just randomly hooking up with each other. Based on the dates that Vaako, Ehnen, Goaty, Chunk had posted that they can make it.

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are big no no's. So therefore I simply suggest that we don't prac those days, but pub and get some fun pracs if some other ET players are around.

My suggestion:

# Monday - Practise at 19.00 GMT - Strats, Scrim

# Tuesday - Practise if needed, gets decided at Monday's prac (If there is an upcoming offi etc.)

# Wednesday - Practise at 20.00 GMT - Strats, Scrim

# Sunday - Practise at 19.00 GMT - Strats, Scrim

Always depends on what people that are around and what people that wants to play
We'll be at our warserver, leading the praccs will either swe flag Zymon or eng flag Goatherder if around!

We might soon want to get some offis again, a few more weeks of prac would do us good though.

If you spot any smaller tournaments hosted these coming weeks, don't hesitate with contacting either Zymon or Goatherder about it.

Also I'd like to thank ire flag Vaako for being around a lot these last weeks helping out a lot. And congratulate him on getting into the Irish National Team in ET! Many congrats and good luck in the ClanBase Nations Cup! TG will be following you.
